We started WCKF, LLC because we love radio, local towns, and people. There was an opening on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website, and we won the bid to start a new station. It took us three years to find a location and to discover what the people wanted to hear.
Les Gradick came up with the idea of starting a new station. Teresa Goodman, on the other hand, wanted to create a program that catered to a local market. Then, Alabama 100 was born, and we went on the air one midnight, playing Christmas music. We now play mostly country music with a touch of southern gospel. Since our start in 2011, we now cover 14 counties that hold more than a million people.
